We didn't rank by App Store rating — almost every app here sits at 4.5–4.7 stars, which tells you nothing. Rating counts are listed only as a rough sign of how many people use each app.

Widgetsmith

~770,000 ratings · 4.6★ · free, subscription for premium options. The widget builder everyone starts with. Clock is one of many widget types — alongside calendar, weather, photos, health — and you style it yourself: font, colour, background, border. Best if you want one app to design your whole Home Screen. Less good if you want a clock face: the clock is typographic, not an object with a personality.

Color Widgets

~520,000 ratings · 4.6★ · free, in-app purchases. Thousands of ready-made presets, many combining time, date and battery on one tile, plus Lock Screen widgets. Best for the "aesthetic Home Screen" look with matching icons and wallpapers. The clock itself is a line of text on a pretty background — that's the point, not a flaw.

Flip Clock: Digital Desk Widget

~70,000 ratings · 4.6★ · free, in-app purchases. The big one for retro flip clocks: a fullscreen flip display for the desk or nightstand plus Home Screen widgets. Best if the flip look is the whole reason you're here. On the Home Screen the cards can only "flip" once a minute like every other widget.

Digital Clock – Bedside Alarm

~69,000 ratings · 4.6★ · free, in-app purchases. A minimalist LED digital clock with a standby-style display and a focus timer, designed to sit on a desk or nightstand all evening. Best as a bedside clock; the widgets are a bonus.

ClockPhone big digital clocks

~29,000 ratings · 4.6★ · free, in-app purchases. Exactly what the name says — the largest, most readable digits, plus an alarm. Best when you need to read the time from across the room, or with glasses off.

World Clock Time Zone Widgets

~22,000 ratings · 4.7★ · free, in-app purchases. Track several cities from the Home Screen and Lock Screen. Best if the question is "what time is it in Tokyo", not "which clock looks nicest". Apple's own World Clock widget does the basic version of this for free.

Desk Clock – Analog Clock Face

~22,000 ratings · 4.6★ · free, in-app purchases. A fullscreen digital and analog clock with a collection of classic dials. Best for a proper analog clock on the desk; the analog dial is the draw.

MD Clock and Zen Flip Clock

MD Clock: ~6,500 ratings · 4.6★ · Zen Flip Clock: ~6,200 ratings · 4.7★ · both free with in-app purchases. Two minimal flip clocks built around studying and focus — timers, quiet screens, no clutter. MD Clock notes an Apple Design Award finalist spot in 2022. Best if you want a flip clock that doubles as a focus timer.

Apple's built-in Clock widgets

Free, already on your phone. The Clock app ships a World Clock widget (analog dials for one or four cities) and a City widget (digital, with the offset from your time). What to check before you pay for any of them

• What's actually free. "Free" on the App Store means free to download. Open the app and count the faces or presets you can use before the paywall.
• Subscription or one-time. Most clock apps are subscriptions now. Look for the price and period on the paywall — iOS shows it before you confirm.
• Widget sizes. Small, medium, large — some apps only draw one or two sizes well.
• Privacy. A clock doesn't need your location, contacts or an account. Check the App Privacy section on the store page.
• Lock Screen. If you want a clock under the Lock Screen time, make sure the app lists Lock Screen widgets — many don't. And if what you really want is to restyle the big Lock Screen clock, no app can do that; iOS can.
